What to expect for an in-home, Lifestyle

newborn session

I decided to blog a past lifestlye newborn session today, since I receive a lot of newborn session inquiries and it can be difficult to envision what your in-home session might look like.

For starters, no two sessions are the same. Newborn sessions are incredibly unique and often take 90+ minutes. My sessions are ALWAYS baby-led. I cannot stress this enough. This means we allow the baby to rest, nurse, be soothed, use the pacifier, even lay how they are comfortable. I have arrived at a client's home before and had the baby decide to cluster feed for an hour. We simply work around baby (and mom's) needs.

A calm session creates a calm environment for everyone and therefore incredible images.

Since these sessions can* be in-home and no two babies are alike, the galleries are truly unique! That's the fun. I can't think of another session type that is so intimate and true to you.

Here's a look at this lifestyle, or documentary style session:

We will capture photos with mom, with dad, with the full crew. We'll capture baby alone and all of baby's delicate features. And of course, all those little in-between moments too. Any yawns, tears, feeds, or moments rocking your little one.

*It's worth noting that sessions don't have to be in-home either. I have photographed in a park on a warm sunny day, or outside of my client's home by the lake in the fall. Location is another layer we can add-in to make your images more meaningful.

One thing I especially love about this session is that the baby was in a plain long-sleeve white onesie for the first half of the shoot. It's so simple and pure, and true to those early days. Did you catch that while you were viewing? There is no pressure for fancy, uncomfortable outfits for anyone.

For this session, I delivered around 50 images. I've shared 14 here. Hopefully this gives you a sense of what to expect, from session through to images.

May you consider capturing those sweet, sweet early (and incredibly fleeting) newborn days. I know I'm glad I did. I look back on our images and those days almost don't feel real.
